Ken Pierce was one of a select group of USGS geologists who did the pioneering mapping of Yellowstone in the 1960s. For the next fifty years he engaged in ground-breaking research on many Yellowstone topics including timing of glacial advances, track of the Yellowstone Hot Spot, post-glacial inflation-deflation cycles, and glacial geomorphology.
